May 26th, 2010

recently my classmate and I looked at Brave New World and 1984. We were looking for different ways of censorship. Also modern day censorship.  We documented some interesting things about censorship. We found many examples and put them in a chart below.

Henry Foster: one of Leninas many lovers and he is an alpha male

Lenina Crowe: She works as a vaccination worker at the central London Hatchery

Linda: She fails to fit in because she is viewed as promiscuous views. When she gets moved to world state people viewed her as trash.

1,000 words

May 11th, 2010

Recently we took a trip to see some picture at Columbia College Museum of Contemporary Art. We were asked to describe a picture in 1,000 words. Below is two paragraphs from my 1,000 words on this photograph.

The smallest of the appliances look like a dishwasher. Next to the first appliance is a metal piece. The metal is standing next to the first appliance. The first appliance is very small and dirty there is a slot that looks like a vent. There are two pieces that seem to meet at the center of the slot. There is a large hole (like the glass/plastic holes with front load washers) the hole exposes a very small drum. Also on the panel of the “dishwasher” are these two square outlets. The dishwasher looks very dented and outdated it due to the many flaws. The dishwasher has a knob that is halfway turned, the know is very small and has a mini cutout. The second appliance looks like a washer and or a dryer. It also has the dirty look to it and it makes it look burnt.

The second appliance “the dryer” is bigger than the first appliance. The dryer has more knobs and buttons than the first appliance. On the second appliance a black strip runs on the bottom, it looks really new compared to the appliance. The glass on appliance two has a wider glass window than the first one. The second machine has a detergent drawer or an area to put liquid soap. The drawer looks very burnt probably the worst of the two appliances. There is a series of four buttons that line the appliance; two of the buttons look like they have been stuck for a long time. The other two buttons appear to be out of their “sockets”. To the right of the appliance appears to be a logo or a company button.  A Different pattern of dirt/burnt residue is apparent; it also looks like somebody put a shoe tred on it. Above the second appliance looks to be some residue or dust that has accumulated. This appliance looks overused or misused, because it is tilting and the door handle looks to be falling off.

Graffiti in the city

April 24th, 2010

All pictures were taken at The Crawford Steel Yard in Chicago. The pictures were created by many artist and avid fans of graffiti. Crawford steel yard loaned the outside of their building for graffiti. My favorite piece was Alice in wonderland due to the perfection of the lines and it wasn’t  sloppy. The purpose of the field experience was to see different graffiti in the city.
